10 Steps to Stress-Free Relationship Building

Relationship building may be the last thing on your very lengthy list of to-dos. Why spend so much time on your professional and personal relationships when you 're already on Twitter? Relationship building isn't just about staying in touch with peers, but about stress-free time management. Keith Ferrazzi on his blog noted that if you work some of his tips into your personal life each day, your professional life will thrive. Last week he polled some of his readers about their top tips for stress-free relationship building and most are personal rituals you can do daily. He noted that most people who are happy in their jobs are also confident in their stress management skills. Check out some of his readers' favorites:

  • Walk your dog. If you work from home, walking the dog is a perfect break.
  • Do some networking at the gym.
  • Once per quarter organize a drinks night.
  • Make time to do something you like that won't take long, whether it is praying or listening to music.
  • Make two lunch appointments – eat with the one and grab a coffee with the other.
  • Create a blog purely for reference, where you keep important links and research.
  • Keep your TV off.
  • Choose one important task and spend an hour tackling it before opening email or returning a call.
  • Answer emails and schedule appointments while watching your sports team play on the weekend.
  • Show up for appointments 15 minutes early.
