Remember when pundits declared the Internet a passing fad and the dot-com bust declared it dead? The same rhetoric is being used today by many executives to pooh-pooh Facebook.
Maybe a few facts will crack their resistance and reluctance.
As recently as February 2010, Facebook surpassed 400 million users. An even more significant statistic is that over 50% of users log on in any given day, uploading more than three billion photos each month, sharing more than five billion pieces of content each week, and spending more than 55 minutes per day on Facebook.
While it would be difficult to justify and argue on behalf of all the content, it would be equally naïve and foolish for management to ignore a venue where more than 200 million people daily. It would be the equivalent of passing up the opportunity to put your storefront on the busiest intersection in town for a bargain price because you preferred the peace and quiet of off-the-beaten-path.
If you still believe that Facebook is just for kids and not a viable strategy for your business, consider this — 1.5 million local business have created active business Pages on Facebook since early 2009 and more than 20 million people become fans of these Pages each day. To date, Facebook Pages have created more than 5.3 billion fans.
